Women worked tirelessly to gain Constitutional equality through the 1970’s until the time limit expired in 1982. Nevertheless, the effort for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment continues today.

In this episode, we hear stories of the Equal Rights Amendment effort in South Carolina, and meet:

  • S.C. State Representative Carolyn Frederick;
  • S.C. State Representative Harriet Keyserling;
  • S.C. State Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter;
  • Mary Heriot, co-founder of the Columbia chapter of the National Organization for Women;
  • Barbara Moxon, leader with the S.C. League of Women Voters and Chair of the S.C. Commission on Women;
  • Malissa Burnette, employment attorney and President of the S.C. ERA Coalition; and
  • Elizabeth Patterson, U.S. Congresswoman.
